Convention Space is not an issue

Here are some of the highlights of what is offered at the Orlando Convention Center

The award-winning Orange County Convention Center (OCCC), located in the heart of Downtown Orange County and only 15 minutes from the Orlando International Airport, provides a multitude of event options in two beautiful facilities - the West Building and the North/South Building - for a combined offering of the following features:
  • 2.1 million-square feet of exhibition space
  • Two 92,000-square foot general assembly areas
  • 74 meeting rooms/235 breakouts
  • The 2,643-seat Chapin Theater
  • A 160-seat Lecture Hall
  • The 62,000-square foot multi-purpose Valencia Room
  • Three full-service restaurants/8 food courts
  • Four business centers
  • In-house electric, plumbing, rigging and technical services, plus wireless mobility throughout the complex
  • On-site parking for 6,227
  • Three covered loading docks/173 truck bays
  • Surrounded by 113,000 hotel rooms

Weather Concerns

With the past Star Wars Celebration happening in late April early May Orlando's weather would be perfect for the event. A check of the weather during this period this year showed the highs in low 80's and the lows at night in the upper 50's plenty of good event weather with warm sunshine and cool nights to enjoy the city's fine attractions and eateries.

What to do outside of the convention

For those who do not know Orlando is the Tourism Capital of the World

Some statistics to back this claim (source)
Florida's Tourism - with 76.8 million visitors in 2004 (a record number), Florida is the top travel destination in the world. The tourism industry has an economic impact of $57 billion on Florida’s economy.

You can't mention Orlando without talking about our theme parks. Walt Disney World put us on the map as the tourist capital, and other themes parks followed Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure, Sea World/Aquatica/Busch Gardens (in Tampa) and of course some of our oldest attractions Gatorland and Cypress Gardens and of course Florida has 3 of the top ranked beaches in the U.S.A

Orlando has some of the most amazing eateries and little coffee shops anywhere that can be found. From to soul food at House of Blues at Downtown Disney's West Side to the frozen drinks served at Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville at Universal's CityWalk. To the local coffee shops surrounding the Downtown Orlando area.

Possible C5 news

news posted over at TF.Net
Campbell, Co-Founder of the Star Wars Grand Florida Alliance, called in with some curious information this evening:

"Documents released by the Orlando Convention & Visitors Bureau indicate that Orlando is indeed bidding for Celebration V in 2010. The tentative dates, if the show comes to Orlando, would be Thursday, August 12th through Sunday August 15th, 2010. The anticipated attendance is 30,000 with approximately 15,000 rooms filled at peak. The Orange County Convention Center is currently holding 1 million square feet of space in the West Complex.

A presentation is being prepared for Lucasfilm and Reed Exhibitions next week and the group plans to narrow down the candidate cities to (2) by October 10th. From there, site visits will commence for the rest of the month with a tentative decision to be made by November 1st.

Perhaps just as interesting, is that a second bid is listed for an additional Celebration in August of 2014.

It's important to note that this information in no way, shape or form means Orlando will get Celebration V, but that the machine is very much in motion and that Orlando is ramping up and putting its best foot forward to acquire this huge piece of business."

An interesting note, the previously unnamed Reed Exhibitions is the same company that has organized New York Comic-Con for the last few years. Should be interesting to find out if this pans out. Thanks for the heads up, Campbell!

While this is very exciting to hear that an announcement may be close, we have still not received any official word from Lucasfilm Ltd. regarding a date or location for Celebration V. At this point, it's still any one's guess as to when or where it will be. It sure is fun to speculate though! As always, stay tuned right here for up to the minute information regarding this and all Star Wars news.

Small update from Dragon Con

TF.net checked in with a small update from Steve Sansweet regarding CV from Dragon Con this past weekend.

1. Celebration V will take place next summer (2010) to commemorate the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back.

2. No Place or time has been set, though there are two things Sansweet said this weekend to remember:

A) They've inked deals like this as late as 6 months out, and:
B) It will be on the "right half of the country" (which, according to Sansweet, means that it will be somewhere between Chicago and the Atlantic.)

This is all rumor as of right now but the dates for Celebration 5 MAY and we stress MAY be announced this weekend at DragonCon 2009. If any news breaks we will post it.

Also please do not read into the fact that the word may is uppercase and bold this is not a spoiler or a hint it is merely to emphasize the rumor

Small update from Steve Sansweet

We emailed Steve shortly after SDCC and of course brought up the subject NO ANNOUNCEMENT YET!!!

Steve was kind enough to write us back and let us know the following

"The waiting on C V is bad for me too! ;) Orlando is still on the list,
but we've got to get the contract done with our new partner and then
listen to their advice."

So we still wait patiently. Mr Sansweet is in Chicago this weekend for the Wizard World Con
